update: fixed panel buttons
update: fixed a small bug in conky3 (the "date"part), it happened when date changed to a longer weekdays name

+included a freefont version (Aller+Kontrapunkt) for the overlap conky, dockicons and emerald (fonts in the pack) - why usin ge, if there are such nice free fonts? ;)
(see the new preview for this version!)

the package includes gtk/emerald, 2 conkys (the overlapping one from this preview and my older, white one), the dockicons, the panel-menu-icon and howtos for conky/with compiz and for creating more dock icons

the panel-menu-icon and the emerald close button are from naalo´s amano icons

hi, glad you like it. but the conky is included in the download file.
just download the archive, extract it. inside you´ll find two archives "wFreefonts" and "wGE_Inspira", they include the conky files...
hope, this helps you.
(i´m on kde now and do not use conky anymore, so there are no more conky files on my notebook, too...)

Very nice. I like your desktops.

I'm trying to guess how you did conky - without success.
Could you share or point me in the right direction ?

I'm really sick of mine :P

well, one object overlays the other, that´s why you got this "broken" look. you have to adjust the sizes of the conkys, best way to find this out is to make it with a non transparent conky bg

Ok, conky2 is getting over conky1

I'm not using compiz so I don't have transparency.

I'll play around more.

When I'm done I'll post a screen shot to you !

Last, but not least, still didn't understand what to do with conky to make it work (i know i am terrible!).
Just tell me if the passages below are correct:

1) copy all the content of the folder cnk_free from the package downloaded to some folder in my home (for example: /home/mark/cnk_free);

2) edit the file start.sh (for example:
conky -c /home/narf/02Sys/cnk_free/conky1&&
have to become: conky -c /home/mark/cnk_free/conky1&&
and so the others lines for conky 2, 3,4

3) right click to start.sh > properties > permissions > allow executing as a program.

4)launch conky in terminal with command: "conky config -c /home/cnk_free.

Is it all? Sorry for wasting your time and thank you once again!

1) yes
2) yes
3) yes
4) no ;) launch conky by double clicking on start.sh

you can include start.sh in your autostarts, too

Hey Narf,
thank you for your help!
Now I've got awn, emerald theme, and conky working, and it's really amazing!
I just have a few problems with:

1) I've copied the theme folder Biergarten to /usr/share/themes, but now I don't know what to do to "apply" it, so I still have the Ubuntu default clearlooks. I have also tried the other way, (making the link) but still don't know what to do next.

2) All the conkies are working, but actually they are making a little bit mess each other. I don't know if I can post you a link with a screenshot I just made. Anyway the problem is that they are all in the center of the screen, and the first one on the left (the hour one) is just showing a number --> now it is 1.35 am and it says just "3"! They have also a border for each box (I think they are taking it from emerald).

3) could you explain me (I swear this is the last .. about this theme I mean!) how to set conky autostart when i restart the computer?

Thank you, really. I guess it needs a lot of patience to answer to all of this questions...

autostart:
go to system, settings, autostart

create a new entry

give it a name, f.e. "conky" and than the next line "/path/to/start.sh"

the next line,comment...you don´t need this

Thank you, thank you and thank you!

I think I'm getting closer and closer to the goal :)

I have moved the conkies more on the right (with the gap x...) but still the two oh the hour and minutes are making a mess.
Here is a screenshot I just made.

[link]

An other point is: could you tell me how to get trasparency to the top panel bar? If i right click on it, then properties and set the opacity I obtain something half trasparent and half not (the buttons keep black), as you can see in this second screenshot:

[link]

Furthermore, you can see in both pics that if I browse the folders or the bars (for example: applications, accessories, terminal) the "active bar" is all black and the background is all white, while in your preview there are some transparencies. Could you tell me how to get that? I guess it's not included in the theme right?

Have a good day bro.
You're teaching me a lot!

1) conky, the hour and minutes are not sown, cause one conky overlaps the other conky
you can regulate it with the max size setting, but for the same overlapping conky clock look like in my screenshot go to ccsm:
opacity, brightness...
in first tab create a new entry
"class=Conky" and set it to 50

for the panel do the same, "class=Gnome-panel" and set to f.e. 80

for transparent menus use
"Tooltip | Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu" and set it to f.e. 80 too

i suggest to enable "blur windows" for a better look and visibility in menus

It's strange, cause it seems not to understand what "opacity" means!

I've gone to ccsm opacity, brightness... and created, in the first tab "class=Conky" and, in other line, "Tooltip | Menu etc."

The thing is they just become more or less bright, not transparent, and it's strange, because I am putting this setting in the tab "Opacity" and not "Brightness"! I've tried all the values, and really don't know what to do!

Do you think it could be a driver problem? I don't think so, cause I have set the terminal with transparency and of course it works!

p.s.: Thanks for the conkys tips, I am trying different settings to have all the staff working properly.

no prob :)

1) you copied the biergarten folder, which includes the gtk-2.0 folder, to /usr/share/themes. now open the appearance settings and click the button left from "install" (dunno how it´s called in english :) )
now you can choose the biergarten theme

2)yeah, you can post a screenshot...you can download it somewhere and send me the link to it
the bad placement could be, cause it is made for 1024x768 screen resolution

open the conkyconfig files with gedit
there you find some variables
gap_x and gap_y are for where the conky window should be placed
(line 34, 35)
you can also define the min size of this window(37)

the variables in the "TEXT" section are for the text placement inside this window(lines 51+)

have you used the freefont conky with the freefonts, and have you installe the freefonts?

Shadows: open ccsm (if not installed, install "compiz config settings manager") and go to section "decoration", shadows for windows: change the entry from "any" to "any & !(class=Conky)"... large C at beginning of "Conky"!!!

Hey!
I'm afraid I'm still missing something.
I don't want to bother you, but I am still new to gnome (as you can see...).
First of all, I've some problems with Emerald themes.
Emerald theme manager imports them (both of us) and I can see them in the preview, but when I select them nothing happens!
Secondly, I don't understand how to import the gtk theme. I was used to import tar.gz package directly from appearance>themes>install, what do I have to do with the folder gtk-2.0 in your package?

:iconnarf41:
narf41 Featured By Owner Nov 24, 2009
emerald: nothing happens, cause your sys uses the gtk-window-decorator
use "alt+f2" and there: "emerald --replace", now you should see your emerald theme
did you install the ccsm (compiz config settings manager)??

yeah, the way you installed themes is correct, but just one possibility

the second one is: copy the theme folder (biergarten, which includes the gtk-2.0 folder) to /home/your home/.themes
or to /usr/share/themes

if you copy it to your home folder, root apps will not use the theme, but you can set a link to the folder
"sudo ln -s /home/your home/.themes/biergarten /usr/share/themes/biergarten"

i prefer the first one with the link, so i can easily rework, copy, remove... my themes without working as root or changing folder permissions

Amazing!

I'm trying to install it, but having some problems with conky settings.
How do I get all that conkies in the same desktop?
I've read the readme in the package, but didn't really understood what to do with the starts.sh and other conky1,2,3,4 files.
Could you give me a little help?

Thx and congratulations for your work!

hi, at first thx a lot :)

conky: with the normal start (just "conky") conky uses the .conkyrc from your homefolder. but you can start conky with another config, too
"config -c /path/to/config"
in this way you can use more than one conky on your desk
the startscript includes all the conkyconfigs, so you don´t have to write them all in your autostart settings

just set the start to executable and set the correct paths to the conkyconfigs in it

I mean I've read the posts before, but actually in the document start.sh in the folder cnk_free there are named 4 files, not just 2. And I changed the directories, but nothing happened.
The only way is to copy one of the conkies file (1, 2, 3, or 4) and paste it in the .conkyrc file, and then I have one of them working...

1) you unpacked the archive somewhere in your home-folder
open the startscript in gedit
there are named two files, find the location of them and change the path in the startscript

2)do you use awn dock? right click on the icon>>change symbol or change icon
